What if I can’t learn?
This class is designed with beginners and non-dancers in mind. Instruction is given at an easy going pace and we keep the class learning together.
How soon can I bring my baby?
As soon as you are comfortable. (Always consult a physician before resuming any movement/exercise program.)
Is it safe?
Dancing is low impact movement and is easy on joints and balance late into pregnancy. The focus of smooth and controlled movement also make it safe for little ones to come along for the ride!
What about fussiness? Many moms worry about their babies' schedule or whether they will be a disruption to the class. Crying, pooping babies IS par for the course now however one of the nice side effects of dancing with your baby is the incredible soothing effect it has on them. The combination of movement and being connected to mom is so powerful, we consistently see it calm even the fussiest of babies.
What if I have twins?
You may alternate them from carrier to carseat during class or bring a helper to dance with the 2nd baby.
What should I bring to class?
- A water bottle
- A carrier of your choice (postnatal)
- Wear athletic shoes and dress in layers. We get warm!
The founder and owner, Monica, has been a professional ballroom teacher and competitor since 2000. She continued teaching up to the week before she gave birth and was happily back at it 8 weeks later.
It occurred to her during her pregnancy that although she was blessed to call it work, dancing was keeping her sane. It was one of the few things she could do that was social, active, and boosted her mood all at the same time. Oscar seemed to be enjoying it too, as he was always calm whenever she was dancing. This trend continued after he was born. Oscar was content to listen and watch while Monica taught, but he really enjoyed the movement of being danced around in the carrier. She was shocked to find no one else was doing a class like this for moms and babies. And in June of 2012, Mama Ballroom was born!
She is now thrilled to combine her two passions, dance and being a mom.
